Description
Invite fierce, protective presence into your space with this handcrafted Mahakala wall mask, carved and painted by skilled artisans in Nepal.
The mask is made from hand-cast resin and hand-painted in dramatic black and silver tones, with intricate engraving symbolising flames and cosmic energy — multiple eyes for all-seeing awareness, a fierce expression, and a crown of skulls representing the impermanence of life.
Symbolism
In Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Mahakala is regarded as a wrathful protector — the fierce manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, whose terrifying visage conceals deep care for all beings. Masks like this are traditionally hung in homes, temples and meditation rooms. This mask depicts Mahakala in the traditional Nepali style.
